ARCHITECTURE HISTORY AND THEORY

Below I've listed the projects I completed for the Architecture History and Theory Module in semester 1 as well as some reflections on the course.

PROJECTS

PROJECT 1

This was the first project of the semester, and I think it was a good introduction to the type of work we'd be doing for the coming weeks. It was a group assignment, so the workload was well-distributed and not too daunting for a first project. I became familiar with the process of analysing a building, its history, construction methods, materials used, circulation, and architectural elements.

PROJECT 2

This project was an expansion on what I learned from Project 1. It was somewhat challenging to handle five different buildings, because the volume of information I had to collect through research was quite large. Once the research stage was finished, I had a good opportunity to practice sketching historical buildings. It was a chance to improve my drawing skills and also prepare myself for the sketching section of the exam. Although it was time consuming, this project was very necessary for my development in the course.

REFLECTIONS

Below are my reflections on the course. Swipe through to read about lectures, online platforms, as well as the module coordinators and tutors.

In-Person Lectures

I was surprised by how enjoyable I found the lectures to be this semester. We were able to cover a large historical timeline of architectural history, moving forward in time each week. One of my favourite topics was Art Nouveau and Antoni Gaudi's works, as well as ancient Greek and Roman architecture; very info-heavy topics that were covered clearly and concisely.
